The brief
We were approached by rural community support charity ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) to create a new campaign identity for their annual awareness initiative – Village Halls Week.
ACRE’s belief is that no one living in rural areas of England should be disadvantaged.
ACRE has delivered an annual week-long campaign designed to increase an awareness of the contribution that 10,000+ village halls make to rural communities across England. Village Halls are the heart of many rural areas, and is increasingly important that these valued buildings should be kept open for the benefit of local residents, community groups and to maintain revenue for local businesses.
In England alone, it is estimated that over 80,000 people regularly volunteer their time with village halls.
Our solution
To help celebrate and spread the message of Village Halls Week, we developed a fun, bright, and flexible identity to reflect the vibrant nature of community activity. The personality celebrated the bright future for village halls and the diverse groups that use them. We were focused on creating an identity that represented the humble nature of the buildings combined with the energy and warmth that they produce. The geometric design represented the simple foundations and ethos of support combined with the celebratory expression of bunting often synonymous with village life. It was also important for us to create a modular design that would help to support the campaign theme each year without the need to recreate things from scratch.
Diversity was also an important factor as part of the campaign personality to demonstrate inclusion being paramount to the future of community rural life.

Door 22 showed genuine interest in supporting our annual campaign from the outset. Initial designs concepts were fun and distinctive. They have ultimately helping us to create a much stronger visual identity to Village Halls Week and we've reached a brand new audience.
